THE CLUB
As far as we know, a “selected” Helsingør team played a match in 1906.
Since then, within the Helsingør Stadium premises, football has been played on all Danish division levels.
FC Helsingør was founded on June 1st 2005 as an elite-sport cooperation between local clubs from within the limits of the Municipality of the City of Elsinore (Helsingør Kommune).
In cooperation with local business interests, the Elite 3000 Foundation was founded.
The goal was to forward the City Council’s elite sports initiative.
Football (Soccer) joined the cooperation in 2005, when founding club Helsingør IF forwarded its football division license to Elite 3000 Football.
Since then the goal has been to involve all of the football clubs from within the borders of the Municipality of the City of Elsinore into the elite football cooperation. The founding clubs were thus: Helsingør IF, Vapnagaard BK, Helsingør FC, Snekkersten IF and Frem Hellebæk.
In 2012 the name was changed from Elite 3000 Football to Fodbold Club Helsingør, or simply F.C. Helsingør.
In 2017 FC Helsingør won its place in the 1st tier Danish league, the Superliga. The first time any Elsinore team had been represented in the most prestigious Danish league since the 40’s. The team consisted of semi-professional, part-time and amateur players.
In 2018 the club was narrowly relegated to the 2nd tier Nordic Bet Liga, having been the financially “smallest” club to ever participate in the Superliga.
In late winter 2019 the FC Helsingør’s First Team, as well as the U19’s and U17’s teams, was forwarded to the newly established company FC Helsingør A/S (FC Helsingør Inc.), with 51% of the ownership being obtained by American investor-group Helsingor USA LLC, 30% beeing retained by the original FC Helsingør cooperation and 19% being put up for sale to local investors and fans.
The U-15’s, U-14’s and U-13’s teams are still an exclusive part of the non-commercial FC Helsingør cooperation.
The official motherclubs are: Helsingør IF, Helsingør FC, Vapnagaard FK 72, Hornbæk IF, Frem Hellebæk, Espergærde IF, Snekkersten IF, Kvistgaard IF, Tikøb IF, Gurre IK and Borsholm Skipstrup IF.
FC Helsingør further involves a number of partnerclubs from all over northern Sealand (the geographical region Nordsjælland), and has a growing talent academy.
